Reading Glasses – A Combination of Near Sightedness and Far Sightedness

When people reach a certain age, they usually suffer from presbyopia. It makes them cannot see clearly what is near to them and causes a lot of trouble. But if they put on a pair of glasses to solve near sight, the far sight is not so clear. Then what to do? The answer is reading glasses. They can solve both near sightedness but also far sightedness.

Short Sightedness

Reading glasses are also often used for short sightedness. What this means is that you would be able to view things clearly when they are closer to you but not when they are in the distance. This is the problem which is normally seen in teenagers and children in large numbers because of excessive computers and television which harms their eyesight over time. Short sightedness can be quite dangerous and it becomes quite necessary to wear the right glasses if you have problems viewing things at a distance carefully, especially if you would be driving. Doctors normally prescribe concave lenses to correct the vision and make objects clear.

Far Sightedness

Reading glasses can help you if you suffer from far sightedness. Far sightedness refers to the condition where you can clearly view the objects that are located far away but not the ones which are nearer to you. There would be a blurriness around the image whenever you try to concentrate on an object that is located closer to you. There is a critical distance at which the object would not be visible to you clearly. In order to know what this actually is, you would need to hold some reading material and then start bringing the material closer to your eyes unless it starts becoming out of focus. This point where the object becomes blurry is the critical distance. This condition is medically known as hyperopia and it occurs whenever the image that should be formed on the retina forms beyond it. Convex lenses would be needed in order to make the object focus on the right spot. This condition is normally seen in people who are old.

And there is a wrong conception I want to pint out. Some children and young individuals also need reading glasses because of their far sightedness. So don’t surprise if your children are told they need reading glasses.
